About my blog

I am a painter living in San Francisco who has also recently started to live, again, in New York. My studio is in San Francisco, but I do have space in Manhattan to paint. This is great good fortune.

My San Francisco studio is part of the Hunters Point Shipyard Artists and our community is in the middle of redevelopment. It is a time of transition.

The painting I do is largely abstract, and after many years of working in oil, I’m now trying my hand in acrylic with a landscape reference surfacing. This is an extraordinary development.

This website is dedicated to my art making, bringing it from a private to a public place, and the thinking this process stimulates. It will cover the topics of painting, what it is to be an artist, and the ménage à trois of artist, art and viewer. The audience I hope will be other artists, other creatives, collectors and those interested in the peculiar life of a creative.

Every week I will be adding posts about issues related to specific paintings of mine, time spent in the studio, and selling my work – whatever concerns occupy me that week.

I started this because of the careful thought I give to how things work in my creating, and many of these thoughts are worth sharing. If my thinking helps someone to further their reach to their creativity it is worth my time in the telling.

Please join me to make this blog into a dialogue.

Cheers, April
